Thank you for your report and we understand that this behaviour can cause damage and obstruction. Legally it is not an offence to park a motor vehicle, other than a Heavy Goods Vehicle (HGV), on a grass verge unless it causes an obstruction of the highway or there are parking restrictions in place or a byelaw is in force prohibiting it. We ask all drivers to consider others and avoid causing issues. Northamptonshire Highways do not put posts or other demarcation on highway verges. We also ask that residents avoid placing stones or planting on the verge to stop the parking. Whilst we appreciate the good intentions behind residents wishing to plant or place stones in the verge, the issue arises if there is either an accident, or damage to underground services (telecommunications cables etc).We do need to consider the safety of any additions to the verges and so, where we are made aware of any obstructions, we may have to remove them or ask residents to remove them. Driving across or along the path is an offence and should be reported to the Police. We are sorry we are not able to action your request and hope the information provided outlines our position.
