I must draw your attention to an increasingly dangerous problem of parking on the grass verge of the Brixworth road downhill in the direction of Holcot, just before the causeway. The most obvious dangers at present are first drivers opening their doors directly onto the road, whilst traffic is travelling downhill this is worse when some choose to park half on the verge and half on the road . Second children and dogs exiting onto the road, with no traffic awareness at all, this is even more worrying. Thirdly cyclists travelling in both directions are to be negotiated by motorists while also avoiding the pedestrians from this road side car park. It is surely only a matter of time before someone is seriously injured or killed on this road, I’m certain the county council don’t want this so can we please see some mandatory signage on this stretch of road for the safety of us all please. I see that some polite signs have been put up, but you must realise they will simply be ignored as they are not mandatory.

I live in Brixworth and regularly drive along the causeway over Pitsford Water. I have become increasingly alarmed recently by the dangers posed by cars parking on or trying to park on the grass verge just before the car park. Apart from the unsightly mud-fest it has become, it is also highly dangerous as cars are often parked on the highway or are stopped on the highway as they try to park. This results in traffic having to overtake or stop and squeeze by. There are also often pedestrians in the road, including prams and wheelchairs. It is an accident waiting to happen. Would it not be possible to continue the effective line of posts that are along the causeway up the verge where the parking is happening?
I am very aware that I am not alone in these concerns and that a number of residents from Brixworth have contacted both you and Anglia Water to complain. Hopefully, something will be done before somebody is injured.
I look forward to hearing from you.

Thank you for your further correspondence to Northamptonshire County Council’s Street Doctor Service with regard to vehicles parking on the verge adjacent to Pitsford Causeway. We are currently liaising with Anglian Water and other interested parties to introduce a verge parking order along this section to make an enforceable order to prevent parking on the verge. In the meanwhile the signs have been put up along the verge to deter parking and the Police are going to monitor the situation over the weekend and if any vehicles are parked on or partially on the carriageway, contravening the Clearway Order, they will take action.
