Mud and mess in front of drive that people park on and block drive
Reported via mobile in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 15:22, Wed 13 January 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2476124.
At the entrance to my driveway to the property that I have recently bought there is an old grass verge that is now just mud and mess due to vehicles parking on that blocks us in. Because it is getting driven on to gain access to driveway and people parking on it, it is causing the issue to get worse and worse. To solve this problem this small area would be a lot better in my opinion to be tarmac to match the existing pathway. The issue has been present since the house was built.

Thank you for your enquiry regarding damage to the grass verges that may be caused by vehicles driving or parking on them. We do appreciate that there are areas where parking is at a premium and people endeavour to maximise the available on-street and off-road parking spaces. Unfortunately, the County Council would not consider installing a hard surface on roadside grass verges and no longer consider installing ‘No Parking’ type signs or such measures at wooden posts, bollards or barriers to prevent parking on verges to be a priority. Nevertheless, some verges may look aesthetically messy and unsightly, especially after the typical wet or wintery weather. Therefore if there is significantly damage to a roadside grass verge, this can also be reported on the Northamptonshire County Council’s online ‘Street Doctor’ system Street Doctor for consideration under our annual maintenance programme for re-seeding (or re-turf if particularly muddy/roiled) and within the constraints of the Northamptonshire Highways financial budget.
