  • Thank you for your enquiry. These signs have been placed to protect the school during drop-off times from a review in 2019-2020 and whilst they appear to be in the middle of the footway, they in line with the metal barrier with the banner outside the school which does allow given room for pedestrians whilst enabling the signs to be visible to the motorist. It is likely that the signs may have only just been placed due to the backlog of work due to the COVID-19. Whilst it may have been beneficial to place the signs close by the hedge, our works order for the location shows utilities present under the footway which would have needed to have been avoided and could have prevented them being placed in an ideal position.

  • So I understand about the utilities but surely they could of been placed safer for visually impaired people and blind people I understand why the barriers are the to stop the children running into the road but the signs did not need to be put where they are I’m sorry I’m escalating this with the NAB and the local Chronicle&Echo news paper these signs have been put in a dangerous position and this is from a visual impaired person. Very disappointed with your response.

  • The signs could of been placed opposite the school so that when drivers get out of there cars parked along that side of the school that look at them when they actually get out of their cars not on the passenger side then all this of putting signs in the way of visually impaired, blind and people with mobility vehicles would not find it difficult to pass another great idea passed by the council with no thought for the disabled person in mind.

  • Thank you for your photograph. We are currently investigating the location of the sign posts and any obstruction of the public footway. For information these signs have been placed to protect the school during drop-off times from a review in 2019-2020 and whilst they appear to be in the middle of the footway, they in line with the metal barrier with the banner outside the school which does allow given room for pedestrians whilst enabling the signs to be visible to the motorist. • Thank you for your comments regarding parking enforcement sign posts that have been installed on the footway outside the entrance to the school on Lyncrest Avenue. Following a visit to the location this morning we can verify that there is a width of more than 1 metre between the posts (three posts are in line with existing pedestrian guard-railing) and the hedgerow boundary of the school. The one exception is the sign post that had to be installed slightly further from the kerb due to the adjacent underground services. However, providing the school maintain the hedgerow, there is sufficient accessibility for pedestrians, wheel-chair/mobility scooter users and push-chairs etc.. Therefore our professional assessment is that under the circumstances and noting limitations with the historic design of the street, these signposts do not present a pedestrian hazard. The balance between road/school safety and accessibility has been considered by Northamptonshire Highways.
