No entrance or indication of path either end
Reported via desktop in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 15:22, Thursday 18 February 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2555193.
Could you firstly confirm this footpath still exists, if so, could you arrange for it to be opened either end and a simple stile sign erected.

Thank you for your enquiry. We have looked at this again today and it is a very small path that just cuts the corner of 2 fields. We do not feel that there is evidence of it ever being on the ground – it is obstructed by well-established hedges and ditches with no crossing points. The fields are grass so new gates or stiles would also need to be installed at 3 locations. Unfortunately at the present time, this would be a low priority route for us to open on the ground. It could require enforcement to clear 3 hedges and install gates or stiles. We would then have to pay for bridges over the ditches and additional fingerposts. Whilst this would be on our list of works to be undertaken in the future it is not a priority at the current time. Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

I can fully understand your reasons, but due to the dangerous bends between these two roads and the increasing amount of traffic along this road, I would of thought a simple indication of where the path begins and ends, is all that is required in the interim. These hedges have gaps in them anyway and no stock fences.

Thank you for your further comments. We will continue to monitor the situation. Our Inspection shows one of the entrances on to the footpath, there are no gaps in the hedge and a substantial ditch that would need bridging. We would only open the legal line even if there is a gap further along the hedgerow
