The barrier prevents me from safely using cycle path as it’s too narrow
Reported via mobile in the Pedestrian Barriers - Damaged / Missing category anonymously at 06:30, Wednesday 24 February 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2568096.
I live on this street and the only way I can cycle with my child in a trailer is to use the road to exit the street due to the barriers onto the cycle path being too narrow. The barriers do not prevent motorcycles as there have been numerous occasions when my children have been almost run over by them so they serve no purpose. Other areas in Northampton do not such narrow barriers and I can get through these.
Thank you for reporting a fault. We will use the information you have provided to assess and prioritise this fault in accordance with our published response times for fault reports.

Thank you for your enquiry. Whilst we can understand the inconvenience that you may be experiencing in negotiating the access with your bicycle/child trailer, we have not received any previous issues with the barrier. Therefore Northamptonshire Highways are not considering removing the motor vehicle preventative measures at this location as they were installed for pedestrian safety reasons and that the decision to remove them would require approval by the locally elected Councillor.
