The surface of the road has been renewed and is awaiting markings
Reported via desktop in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 09:10, Thu 18 March 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2616573.
The surface of New Road has been renewed and is awaiting markings. As my house stands on the corner of Rock Road and New Road (PE8 4LL), I wondered if this is an appropriate time to ask if a white T-ended line could be placed outside my ground level window to my kitchen. The footpath lowers here for pushchair/wheelchair access, but vehicles block this disabled access by parking. (The lowered kerb is opposite Millfields cul-de-sac junction, so know parking is illegal, yet it happens.) Perhaps double yellow lines from the nearby corner or a single white line (such as those for driveways) would be helpful. This has more recently become an issue, as the road has increased usage. It was very quiet when I moved in over 30 years ago! Many thanks.

I have not heard back from you as yet. The road markings have been put down, but my situation still stands. I have attached new photographs to show the low window and the dilemma for those wanting to cross the road at this lowered kerb point.

Thank you for your enquiry and our apologies for the delay in responding. Unfortunately it is not generally possible to add last minute requests to pre-planned work and with the road markings have now been completed. However, a request for parking restrictions on the junction can be considered within a future highway improvement scheme. Unfortunately yellow lines do take some time as there is consultation required and a legal consultation process to follow, but in due course this should offer a better solution here. If for any reason the yellow lining is not considered appropriate at this location then Northamptonshire Highways can look at adding a single advisory white line instead. In the meantime, parking a vehicle inappropriately where it is deemed not possible for drivers to safely manoeuvre, pedestrians to pass unhindered along the footway or that access to public or private property is impeded, is against the law and should be reported to Northamptonshire Police’s Safer Community Team on 101 or via the Northamptonshire Police website.
