Outside 18 station road cogenhoe

Reported via mobile in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 17:13, Wednesday 14 April 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2671716.

The trees which line the pavement outside our house are huge and overhang into the the road and also are starting to affect the cables. Also we have to park on the road and the birds completely obliterate the cars underneath in mess. These trees are far to high for any resident to attempt cutting them back. You can also not walk on the footpath without having to move branches etc

  • In an attempt to visualise the issue I have attached a photo showing the overhanging branches and one of the bonnet of my car taken 6 hours after having it cleaned... which if left will be covered by the morning. This adds maintenance costs and risks damage if left, is unsightly and of course is easily remedied by the removal of branches higher than can be reached. This has previously been reported without response and despite our own efforts to maintain a reachable height your support is required to resolve the issue for residents required to use the road for parking.

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We have carried out an investigation of this concern and can confirm that there is work scheduled to cut back the overhanging vegetation from the footway. This should be completed within the next six months and please be assured that you will receive an update once repairs are completed. With regard to the tree branches growing adjacently to the electrical cables; we have informed Western Power of this situation. They will then review this matter and take the relevant necessary action. Whilst we understand your disappointment with bird droppings causing a nuisance to cars underneath; Northamptonshire Highways will not prune or cut back a tree to prevent or reduce this. We understand that this outcome may fall short of your expectations; however, we are only able to intervene if there are immediate safety concerns evident.
