Joining One Way System - Non-Obvious & Dangerous
Reported via desktop in the Road Markings - Worn/Faded category anonymously at 00:20, Sunday 18 April 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2676861.
It is non-obvious that Wellington Street is joining a one way system (Greyfriars) at the indicated location. There are several options for making this more obvious to drivers (islands, curving the road / road markings, additional signage etc) - there is currently a single sign on the distant, opposite side of the road, that could be easily obscured and is easy to miss at night. There is a car park on Wellington Street, making it easy for drivers that have been shopping for extended periods to forget the road layout they have previously encountered. I am reporting this because I know of at least one person that has driven the wrong way down the one-way, Greyfriars dual carriageway, at this junction, despite due care and attention, risking a serious accident.
Thank you for reporting a fault. We will use the information you have provided to assess and prioritise this fault in accordance with our published response times for fault reports.

Thank you for your enquiry. A ‘Turn Left’ arrow road marking and illuminated one-way road traffic sign are located on the approach to the one-way junction and are subject to regular highway inspection for maintenance or replacement. This matter of incorrect vehicle manoeuvring would be with driving care and observation rather than requiring additional highway engineering or further signage measures, in case drivers forget to turn left at this location.
