Wythimer Lane (RA46) is now completely blocked to due to scrub growth
Reported via desktop in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 19:35, Wed 5 May 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2708749.
Clearance work is needed to reinstate this route. Due to other hedging works in that stretch parts of the route have been cleared but the RoW is still blocked by blackthorn for about 50-100 yards between the crossing of the RA27 and the RA4. This problem has been getting worse over many years and the route is now impassable.

Thank you for your enquiry from which we regret to learn of your experience when attempting to use this public right of way (PRoW) reference Footpath RA46. Accessibility of public rights of way is always a concern if they are overgrown with vegetation or physically obstructed in some way and when they are the responsibility of the landowner to keep clear. Therefore when we get reports of certain locations on our PRoW network, we will endeavour to make a site visit and take appropriate action to get the matter fixed, addressed by the landowner if it is across ploughed land or indeed by ourselves if it is something like a damaged bridge or gate that we have installed. Unfortunately the route RA46 has become completely overgrown and unusable through neglect for some time as it is a cul-de-sac footpath that is enclosed. Regrettably the amount of work required to reopen this route would be considerable and due to the local authority's financial and resource implications, together with current environmental concerns, this is not a priority route for Northamptonshire Highways to carry out works within the foreseeable future. Nevertheless, Northamptonshire Highways do appreciate the importance of accessibility and safety for all in the community and we hope that this response has clarified our position regarding the issue you have raised.
