  • Thank you for your comments to Highways Street Doctor Service with to your concerns about speeding in Havelock Street, Kettering. Traffic calming measures and one way systems were introduced in the Havelock Street and the surrounding area about 15 years ago, due to high number of accidents in the area and to deter “rat running” through these streets. A series of “roll over” road humps were introduced along Havelock Street, a priority change was introduced at the Wellington Road junction and a raised table and narrowing was introduced at the Nelson Street junction to help reduce vehicle speeds along this road. Northamptonshire Highways, in conjunction with the Police monitor all injury accidents on the roads in Northamptonshire. Any locations where the record of accidents raises concerns, either as a cluster of accidents at a specific point, or a series of accidents along a length of road, will be investigated further. In Havelock Street there is currently no evidence on road safety terms to warrant the introduction of any further speed reduction measures along this road. Unfortunately every section of road network represents a risk to one type of road user or another and it is impossible to totally eliminate those risks. It is likely that the majority of motorists travelling on this road are law abiding and compliant. Regrettably there will always be a small minority of thoughtless motorists who disregard limits and do not drive in accordance with the conditions of the road or environment.
