Pothole in middle of road

Reported via desktop in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 14:15, Thursday 13 May 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2723927.

Previous incident number 2706300 Pothole in the middle of the road outside 19 Main Road, Shutlanger,NN12 7RU . Your response was as follows: "There are no immediate safety concerns relating to this issue that warrant further investigation or repair at this time. However, please be assured that we will continue to monitor the area as part of our routine inspections."

We noticed one of your vans slowly drive by. Stopped at the hole, but no one actually got out to look at it. I assume that your colleague is experienced enough to gauge and measure the hole from the driver side of the vehicle.

You said that you will continue to monitor the hole. Please tell me what the frequency of this monitoring will be?

What constitutes a hole in the road that you will repair, and what would be a safety concern. What measurement does the hols have to be to be repaired.

I noticed that there are already holes in the road further up the road near Taylors Farm and the A5 junction that have been marked for repair. Does it not make sense that when you are in the area that you should have also repaired the hole outside No19. This should save you the cost in coming out again!!

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of Main Road; specifically that you feel the situation wasn’t full reviewed when we first inspected the area. We appreciate your comments and have therefore carried out a further assessment of the issue and are pleased to confirm that the carriageway defects that meet the specifications for remedial work you have indicated in this location, have a repair scheduled to resolve them. This should hopefully be completed within six months’ time. Please be assured that you will receive an update once repairs are concluded.
