Road surface failing

Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 01:50, Sunday 16 May 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2728521.

The recent pot hole repairs that have been carried out at the junction with Stoke Road and Knock Lane have now failed. There a number of large potholes at this location that are unavoidable to road users and as such are increasing in size and depth on a daily basis. This is a danger to road users especially motorcycles and will most certainly cause damage to people’s vehicles. This surface failure is due to poor quality previous repairs and lack of drainage for surface water. Adequate drainage needs to be installed to deal with field water run off and silt that is deposited at the junction which is also a braking hazard. The entire junction also requires a full resurface.

  • Was the repair work actually carried out at this junction? I ask because the road surface is awful here but your comment suggests it "should be completed within a weeks’ time" earlier this year. I drive onto Stoke Road regularly coming from Knock Lane and can confirm it's still terrible. The road is coming apart and this has caused lots of large rocks to be scattered across the junction. It at least needs tidying up a bit

  • Thank you for your further comments. We understand that you feel that the road surface is still in poor condition. Whilst we appreciate and sympathise with your comments, we can confirm all potholes that met repair criteria have been resolved. However, please be assured that we will continue to monitor the area as part of our routine inspections. With regard to the general condition of the road itself; we do understand that it could benefit from resurfacing works in the future. Regrettably, this will not take place during this current financial year due to the budget for the scheme list being fully allocated. Please be assured; however, that we will include this for consideration in future years’ funding. Until then, any safety defects that are identified on the carriageway in the meantime, will be safely patched and repaired to keep the road serviceable.
