Danger to pedrestrians visiting the woods
Reported via desktop in the Obstruction (Not Vegetation) category anonymously at 08:17, Tue 25 May 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2747282.
Visitors to the woods including those with children, dogs and the elderly park on the east side of the road and then have to cross the road to walk up to the woods. There are not advisory notices to motorists using this stretch of road to warn of people crossing the road. The road is covered by the national speed limit and has bends approaching the hazard area from both directions. It is particularly difficult for drivers approaching the area from the Nassington/Yarwell direction. It is also difficult for people returning from the woods to see vehicles approaching from this direction. The number of people visiting the woods has increased greatly since the pandemic so the chance of an accident has similarly increased. Surely, once a hazard has been identified there is a duty to put up warning signs and road markings before an incident occurs. That it what warning signs are about - prevention of accidents. Thank you

Thank you for your comments, and many apologies for the delay in replying. We have a duty to consider installing warning signs, but we do not automatically install warning signs about pedestrians at every access onto the rural network. Drivers should expect to meet pedestrians at any point on the rural road network and should drive accordingly. The parked cars opposite the woods are an indication that people cross here to an alert to attentive drivers. However we will review the situation in light of your comments. Thank you for contacting us about this.
