Barrier demolished and not replaced / repaired

Reported via desktop in the Safety Bollard - Damaged/Missing category anonymously at 01:09, Thu 17 June 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2797399.

The footpath barriers (Bickerstaffes Road end) and concrete bollard (Plank Houses end) (see images attached) between number 9 Bickerstaffes Road and number 11 Bickerstaffes Road were demolished by a car in the summer of 2019 and have not been repaired or replaced. The overgrown hedging (belonging to my property) had been a deterrent to vehicles accessing the footpath but the hedging has now been cut back (remainder to be removed once nesting birds have fledged) and this deterrent no longer exists. The footpath provides regular access for young children and parents to access the Towcester C of E Primary School and the Recreation Field and senior citizens to access Plank Houses. With no barriers, cars will see this as a vehicle access and the possibility for accidents is significantly increased.

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of the footpath adjacent to Bickerstaffes Road; specifically, there are footway barriers that were severely damaged and removed after being collided into by a vehicle and were not reinstalled. We appreciate your comments and have carried out a further assessment of the issue and are pleased to confirm that the footway defects that meet the specifications for remedial work you have indicated in this location, have a repair scheduled install new barriers. This should hopefully be completed within six months’ time. Please be assured that you will receive an update once repairs are concluded.
