Ivy growing over Willowbrook bride narrowing roadwayy

Reported via desktop in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 19:53, Tue 27 July 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2895620.

There is significant ivy growth over the parapet of the bridge crossing the Willowbrook on Kettering Rd forcing traffic towards the centre of the roadway on what is a partially blind bend. I am also aware that there is vegetation (brambles etc) growing over the narrow public footpath alongside the road that forces pedestrians to walk on the edge of the pavement or in the road itself. This second point was reported some weeks ago by someone else but has still not been addressed

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of the vegetation on this section of pathway adjacent to Kettering Road. We appreciate your concerns and can confirm that there is a works order in place to clear the ivy, in the next six months, under our maintenance programme. We have already minor vegetation/bramble clearance on the bridge. Please be assured that you will receive an update once repairs are concluded.

  • This problem was first reported about 4 months ago by both myself and Weldon Parish Clerk. In addition to the ivy there is also a Willow sapling growing from the base of the bridge wall on the opposite side of the road that needs removal. This additional information was notified 3 months ago. Action is long overdue!!!

  • This problem was reported over 4 months ago now and has only got worse. It is high time it was sorted. It is a traffic hazard as it forces vehicles to the centre of Kettering Road on a partially blind bend as the road crosses the Willow Brook. I have also repeatedly reported the young willow tree growing from the base of the bridge parapet on the opposite side of the road.
