Deep ruts preventing access to the byway
Reported via desktop in the Passage-Obstructed/Overgrown category anonymously at 19:53, Wed 28 July 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2898135.
The entrance to byway EG14/RB9, running north, is too dangerous to be ridden on horseback, due to the deep ruts created by bikers in muddy conditions. The badly rutted area runs from the entrance to the byway (off the Canons Ashby-Adstone road) for about 20m and prevents the rest of this byway from being ridden. It has been like this since the winter. In spring 2020 a kindly local landowner facilitated remedial work to enable ridden access, but since the wet winter this year attempting access on horseback is extremely hazardous resulting in more horses having to ride on this stretch of fast road which is far from ideal.

Thanks for reporting this we are currently looking into what action we can take with regard to making the surface level, due to the time of year with bird nesting it is currently very difficult to take action at present but we hope to have some plans arranged in the near future and will update you.

We can now confirm that we have arranged for our contractor to go in at the end of September to cut back all the overhanging vegetation and level rutting making the entrance to the byway more easier.
