Another year and still blocked..12 years and counting new council and same lack of action

Reported via Android in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 23:39, Sat 31 July 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 2905222.

Mud left from the last storm again. So tired of trying to get the council to fix the issue. 11 years of reporting and nothing ever gets done. Parish counci can't help. 3 county councillors have tried and failed. New council authority in WNDC but same lack of action expected.

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of the drains outside Queen Street; specifically that you feel there are drains blocked in the area. We have checked the site and can confirm that there is no standing water present. Furthermore, our drainage team have said that they have just been cleaned through cyclic cleansing. Whilst we appreciate and sympathise with your comments, we can confirm that there are no immediate safety concerns relating to this issue. However, please be assured that we will continue to monitor the area as part of our routine inspections. If a flooding emergency occurs, please do not hesitate to contact us on daytime number (08.00-17.00) 0300 126 1000 or for our out of hours team 01604 651074 and this will be treated as a priority.

  • Swept up the 3 buckets of gravel, sand and road surface and emptied back down the drain where they came from. This SAS 1 day after the last gulley cleanse by Drainline. It is clear from the response from WNDC the is no intention to fix I will keep doing this now until either the council fix the issue or the drain gets blocked enough to stop the water coming up.

  • WNDC have finally refused to fix as they claim this isn't dangerous. Bet it would've been fixed sometime in the last decade if it was outside the house of the person making the decisions and they had to put up with standing water making them having to wear wellies whenever it rained just to get out of their house.

  • We have now started getting dead vermin left behind after the rain water subsides. It appears that rats are trying to set up home in the the blocked drains. Pretty unpleasant to have to clear up and dispose of. The post lady trod on the one left after today's rains.

  • Every time it rains we have to try to cross a flood to get in and out of our house. 11 years and counting to endure this since I first reported it.

  • We had some blokes with high-viz come out with David Smith as unitary councillor. Promised investigation and action but 1 month later no progress apart from the weed growth in the residual dirt.
