  • I'm sorry but you are wrong.

If your observe from a vehicle approaching the village the nearside 30 mph sign is obscured and the offside 30 mph sign can be obscured by oncoming traffic.

Vehicles travelling into the village may still think they are in a 60 mph zone.

Please refer to the Government "Traffic Signs Manual" chapters 1 to 7.

    Thank you

  • You may be able to see the nearside 30 mph sign as you come over the hill from Whittlebury towards Silverstone from a distance if you are in a low vehicle but not in a high vehicle.

Since you are cutting back verges on the A413 this week anyway it makes sense to attend to this issue at the same time otherwise it's going to cost us a lot more for your contractors to revisit.

    Thank you

  • Thank you for your further comments. Whilst we appreciate your position on this matter, we have carried out a review of this matter and can confirm that no action is needed at this time as there is plenty of clearance of vegetation for visibility. We will, as advised, continued to monitor the situation.

  • I revisited this site yesterday and the nearside 30 mph sign only has a clear visibility distance of 25 metres.

The regulatory requirement for a 30 mph sign on a 60 mph approach road is 115 metres.

    Thanks very much

  • Thank you for your further comments. Whilst we appreciate your position on this matter, we have carried out a review of this matter and can confirm that no action is needed at this time as there is plenty of clearance of vegetation for visibility. We will, as advised, continued to monitor the situation. - Thank you for your additional enquiry. Although every effort is made to achieve the prescribed forward visibility there will always be occasions when vegetation or foliage may temporarily obscure a traffic sign. In this scenario there are 2 terminal signs, one of which is partially obscured but is supplemented by a second terminal which is fully visible on entry. Moreover, there is a vehicle activated sign which displays 30mph to motorists travelling at or above the speed limit. With this in mind, there should be no reason that a competent motorist would not see they have entered a restricted road. We shall continue to monitor the site and take the appropriate action when deemed necessary.
