Blocked drains

Reported via desktop in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 15:19, Tuesday 14 September 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3000754.

This drain and those in the same chain are completely blocked both horizontally and vertically with mud from agricultural vehicles. I have reported them many times in over 10 years and you have sent out a drain cleaner which clears the vertical down pipe but cannot deal with the real problem which is the horizontal blockage. Please send the correct equipment to deal with the problem as the road is flooded but don't send anyone out as there is nowhere for the water to go.

  • These two photographs show the result of the rain that fell in the early hours of this morning. The first one shows the real problem as at the right edge of the shot you can just see the grip into my field which has drained as much of the flood as it can. The rest of the water needs to pass through the gas station which is clearly visible. Obviously the gas company are not going to allow this and the problem needs to be addressed by CLEARING THE HORIZONTAL DRAINS, so there is no point in sending a person with a shovel. I have written to the Parish Council who did not reply and I am fed up with other villagers asking me to do something about this problem. I am not happy with the water draining into my field as that is now becoming water-logged and soft fruit trees and bushes are at risk. It is dangerous for drivers and distressing for pedestrians. There are 3 drains that are totally blocked which have to cope with water from 700 sg m. The drains have been blocked (weeds growing out of them) for at least 17 years but in the last 5 years the flooding has become excessive and if action is not taken soon then I cannot be held responsible for the consequences.

  • I am attaching photographs taken this morning following last night's rain including one of the drain which is supposed to cope with this water (it is only just visible but it is there). I intend to keep sending photographs every day that there is a flood which I expect will be frequent not to irritate you but to provide evidence when an incident results.

  • The road is flooded again and getting deeper with the rain we are having!

  • This was the situation yesterday morning It will not be long before it will take 3 - 4 days for the flood to soak away because there is nowhere left for it go by permeation through ground that is on the point of becoming waterlogged. If it rains moderately for as little as 30 minutes, the road floods. Heavy rain for 10 minutes is just as bad. Winter is coming!
