Stop cock not accessible

Reported via desktop in the Verges - Damaged by Vehicles category anonymously at 12:57, Thursday 16 September 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3005501.

Grass and mud over the years due to school run parking has hidden the water mains stop cock to my home which I need to access. I would need to dig up a large area of verge to find it. Mine is the only address in this part Highfield Road not to have grass verge replaced by hardening (Tarmac) which would also stop the dog fouling and allow us pensioners to access our front gate with treading on dirty verge and of course the stopcock in question would always be accessible !!

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We are sorry to hear about the issue of inaccessibility to the stop-cock outside your home on Highfield Road. We can confirm that site has been visited and the investigation now complete. It is the responsibility of Anglian Water to maintain, and is outside Northamptonshire Highways’ control as we no longer undertake works to harden verges. Grass verges are helpful in drainage issues and better for the environment. We have passed your comments over to Anglian Water who should be able to assist you further. Please be assured that we will continue to monitor the area as part of our routine inspections.

State changed to: not the council's responsibility
