    State changed to: Investigating

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of the vegetation on this section of path; specifically that it is blocking the beacon of the zebra crossing. Whilst we appreciate your comments, the location of the vegetation that you have identified is not on the adopted highway. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the private landowner to maintain and is outside Northamptonshire Highways’ control. Nevertheless, we have written to the resident requesting that the vegetation is cut back from the footway within the next 14 days. Unfortunately, the telegraph pole cannot be relocated.

  • Thank you for your comments and requesting the private land owner to cut back the vegetation.

Nevertheless I believe it remains the responsibility of Northamptonshire Highways to ensure the zebra crossing beacons comply with the regulations and therefore to check that the vegetation is cut back by the private land owner in a reasonable time.

This is a safety issue especially as the young and elderly use this crossing and both beacons are compromised and the crossing is on a steep hill.

The track record of leaving others to uncover Northamptonshire Highways' signs is not good. Here are a couple of recent examples which remain un-resolved...

  • Thank you for your further comments. Whilst we say that works are to be completed within 6 months, on average these are on average being completed within 13 weeks. In order to spend public money to achieve best value we batch works up of this nature rather than raise individual works order. Unfortunately owing to restrictions on cutting back during the nesting season there often excessive growth at this time of year. An immediate safety defect would be where passage is restriction or brambles along the highway.

  • Thank you for you further comments and apologies for the last comment, this was meant for your other Street Doctor enquiry. An immediate safety defect would be where passage is restricted or brambles along the highway. As this is private vegetation and not owned by Northamptonshire Highways, we give the private landowner the opportunity to maintain their own property. Please be assured that we do follow up to check this is done and, if not, we get our Regulation involved to enforce.
