30 mph signs missing

Reported via desktop in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category anonymously at 16:53, Thursday 16 September 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3006185.

Hi there,

There are no 30 mph signs on the entry to the A413 30 mph zone.

It is entirely possible to access this approach road from the circuit having entered from a 40 mph (Dadford road) or 60 mph (Akeley road) zone.

Thanks very much

  • Thank you for your enquiry. This is a no through road and there is no official vehicle access to or from the circuit, we are therefore not required to provide 30mph terminal signs.

  • That's a little strange as I have seen vehicles leaving from the circuit gates and down this road.

The last sign any vehicle passes on this 'no through road' before entering the 30 mph zone is a 5 mph sign.

    Thanks

  • Thank you for your enquiry. This is a no through road and there is no official vehicle access to or from the circuit, we are therefore not required to provide 30mph terminal signs. - Thank you for your additional enquiry. Although it may be that the occasional vehicle is exiting from this gate, it could be that they entered from this location and as such would have driven into the 30mph speed restriction. We have no jurisdiction over the movement of vehicles from this entrance, however, once they enter the main road it is fully street lit and the highway code states that in this scenario if there are no signs motorists should automatically assume it is restricted to 30mph by virtue of the system of lighting. With this in mind, we have no intention of installing additional signs as requested.

  • Thank you for your update.

Vehicles entering this road from the 30 mph zone then enter a 5 mph zone (please see last photo). These vehicles do not pass any 30 mph signs before returning to the 30 mph zone.

The 30 mph restriction by virtue of the system of lighting is dependent on the distance between the lights. Unfortunately vehicles are not fitted with a display which shows the distance between lamp posts.

Could you state whether this road is adopted or not please ?

    Thanks very much
