Road Traffic lights at junction timing too short

Reported via desktop in the Request Timing Review category anonymously at 18:59, Monday 20 September 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3014088.

The traffic lights to turn right down to Rushmere Road from the billing road junction are not on long enough for any traffic to make the turn, we have to wait until the oncoming traffic from billing road towards town turn to Red.. Today the traffic was backed from this traffic light junction all the way down the billing road to the lights at cliftonville junction! These lights should be adjusted so once oncoming traffic stops the filter to turn into Rushmere Road should be on green longer to give more time to get traffic round. This is an unnecessary traffic backlog when a small adjustment would help loads.

  • Thank you for contacting Northamptonshire highways. An engineer has made some adjustments to the current timings to assist with the current diversion route today. There is currently no right turn arrow at this location and both billing road approaches run together. Traffic wishing to turn right into rushmere road currently has to turn when there are gaps and should move forward into the junction. With the current equipment on site and layout it would not be simple to provide an arrow. There are currently no plans to undertake any upgrade works at this junction. Should the junction be modified in the future we would consider provision for right turning traffic as part of the design.

State changed to: No further action
