Reported via desktop in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 12:06, Wed 22 September 2021
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3017846.
A4036 road is being used by lorries etc as the main road from Daventry to the A5 and the whole is now in a dreadful state. It has been investigate by highways head and he stated this road is very poor condition all along it. The only repairs or resurfacing that has been done is to dump tarmac in potholes after reports and these do not last. It is time to thoroughly redo this road.

Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of this section of road; specifically, multiple defects that you feel have developed. We are pleased to confirm that the defects that meet the specifications for remedial work that you have indicated in this location, has a repair scheduled to resolve them. This should hopefully be completed within seven days’ time. Please be assured that you will receive an update once repairs are concluded. With regard to the general condition of the road itself; we do understand that it could benefit from resurfacing works in the future. Regrettably, this will not take place during this current financial year due to the budget for the scheme list being fully allocated. Please be assured; however, that we will include this for consideration in future years’ funding. Until then, any safety defects that are identified on the carriageway in the meantime, will be safely patched and repaired to keep the roads serviceable.

Some of the holes in question have been fixed, some haven't. The hole I hit on Tuesday 11/01/2022, which was sizeable (see pictures) has been repaired on Friday(14/01/2022). The hole was strangely square which seems to indicate it was an incomplete repair when I hit it. The road surface surrounding it still shows signs of poor maintenance and will I'm certain become an issue within a short time. The road has been poorly maintained for many years, having not been tarred and pebbled since before the digging up of the road for cabling in the early part of the last decade. The volume of traffic has increased greatly in the last ten years particularly with the addition warehouse HGV traffic, further eroding the road surface along the B4036 AND the Daventry - Norton road. This issue needs to be properly addressed in the same way as the Crick - A5 was....and that has a lot less traffic than this road. I can only report this now as the conditions to review the road damage were unsafe due to the foggy weather, lack of daylight hours due to my work and traffic volume.

As I mentioned in my comment from last month there is now a large hole 3-4 metres behind the completed repair. What makes it worse is that it is under water most of the time and on a bend. Drivers with knowledge of the road will swerve to avoid it, potentially putting oncoming traffic at risk. Drivers without knowledge will hit it thinking its just water. It needs to be repaired NOW.
