Heavy rain causes fooding in house

Reported via desktop in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 07:34, Tue 28 September 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3028880.

This is an ongoing issue. When there is heavy rain we get flooding into our basement (15 High Street). There have been numerous attempts to resolve this issue. I believe that the drains need inspecting for damage that will result in water escaping and eventually entering our property.

  • During prolonged and sometimes heavy rain yesterday the basement flooded again - over 2 hours we wet vacuumed approximately 150 litres of rainwater out of the basement. We called the emergency line and 2 people attended to look at the drains. They agreed that the situation needs to be resolved and also took photos. One of the team had attended the situation when reported earlier in the year and was surprised that the issue was not yet solved. We did notice that there we very few rain drains on our side of the street and so the water is not being removed as it should be. This is a very concerning issue - we are not just experiencing a bit of damp. The amounts of water involved mean that we cannot leave the house unattended during wet weather.

The water entry is definitely rain as the flooding is only during rain storms.

Somehow excessive amounts of water are getting into my house.

This needs investigation as a matter of urgency

  • Environmental Agency stated not theirs as NO waterways around this area - last flooded on Saturday 1.45 to 3.00pm after heavy rains, like a tap. A soakaway was compelted but storm drains have not been checked out - potentially not enough capacity to take water away as no Storm Drain on this side (near 15)
