Over hanging hedge blocking path

Reported via mobile in the Restricted Visibility / Overgrown / Overhanging category anonymously at 16:20, Wed 3 November 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3102735.

The hedge from is over hanging the pavement by some 600mm in places . From the entrance off plessy close along Vernon road to the junction off Marlow and around the corner . This prohibits the use off the path for a wheel chair which I transit my mother in . Have spoken to one off the owner and had a mouth full off abuse This is a council matter to sort out and not for me to involve my self in . This is not the only place in towcester where hedges are precluding the use off wheel chairs . And probably a afull walk around should be done with the eyes off a wheel chair user and decide where else . But portions or Marlow rd , bicker staff road ,willis way , sponnes rd etc all siminlar problems . Similar obstruction 600mm or more in a lot off cases The problem has persisted for years and never seems too be addressed either by the owners or by the council If you require any other details do not hesitate to call me and I can fully identify all the places I feel and I'm sure you'd agree that the hedges have encroached to far over the path to be thought as reasonable

  • Thank you for your enquiry. We understand that you have concerns about overgrown vegetation in this area. Whilst we appreciate your comments, as you are already aware, the location of the vegetation that you have identified is not on the adopted highway. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the private landowner to maintain and is outside Northamptonshire Highways’ control. Nevertheless, we have written to the landowner requesting that the vegetation is cut back within the two weeks. We will endeavour to revisit the site following the two weeks’ notice period. In response to your other comments about overgrown vegetation around Towcester, our programmed highway inspection will be undertaken in December, which will allow us to record any defects, and action upon them where necessary.
