Pets at home retail unit has cars parked along service road at the back of the unit, causing deliveries to be delayed or in most cases unsuccessful. please can double yellow lines be implemented?

  • Thank you for your enquiry. In order for the team to investigate the possibility of these restrictions we would require you to complete a Parking Restriction Request form. Please visit the Councils website using the following link https://www.westnorthants.gov.uk/ parking-roads-and-transport/ request-new-parking-restrictions for more information on the process and to submit an application. Please note that by submitting a request form, the proposals are not automatically agreed and are still subject to a site assessment being undertaken by ourselves. For information, our yearly review cut off has passed this year, therefore your request will be put in to the 2022/2023 review. As you may be aware, parking restrictions have a Traffic Regulation Order behind them in order to make the restrictions legal and enforceable. The Council is therefore required to follow a legal process, which includes consultation and potentially a period of dealing with any objections, before parking restrictions can be implemented. This process can take up to 12 – 18 months to complete, with assessments from Parking Restriction Request forms received starting in Autumn/Winter with a view to advertise those that we deem appropriate in Winter/Spring time. Please note that the estimated 12-18 months commences from the beginning of the review process and not from receipt of application. In the short term, Northamptonshire Police can enforce if there is an obstruction on the highway where it is deemed not possible for a driver to safely manoeuvre, pedestrians to pass unhindered along the footway or that access to a public or private property is impeded. Any concerns can be reported via the local Safer Communities Team by calling the non-emergency telephone number 101. Thankyou

    This looks like it’s a public highway and not part of the landlords estate (edged blue on below plan).

    As such this would be the responsibility of the local highways to manage/control. If you haven’t already done so I suggest you liaise with them to set out the issues you’ve got and to see what they can implement. If parked cars are causing access issues to the service yard then they should do something about it e.g. yellow lines, etc.

    Notwithstanding, we’ve had a store here for years so I’m not sure why there’s such a big issue now? I think something similar was flagged years ago, but I’m not certain, although it still would have been the responsibility of the local authority at that time.

    If any other issues similar to this arise going forward I’d recommend distribution check the local authority website first to see if the areas causing an obstruction are adopted or not. If they are then contact should be made with them initially to discuss the problems. If you also flag it with us we can make the LL aware as they may have some influence.

    Can you support please and touch base with the landlord asap to come up with a solution to prevent this from happening at the Corby Store It’s a regular occurrence on the night delivery that it must turn away and come back the following day impacting on costs and store operations
