Complete bodged job

Reported via mobile in the Potholes / Highway Condition category anonymously at 07:43, Sat 4 December 2021

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3159146.

From the bridge over the canal and for approximately 1/2 a mile, HillMorton bound, the road was so badly repaired that cars are driving on the wrong side of the road to avoid the new very bumpy tarmac. It’s an accident waiting to happen as the end of the shoddy work ends at a bend in the road with oncoming traffic. The recent snow has already caused new potholes. When the work was done, the lorry literally drove down the lane while workmen tipped buckets of tar into the holes and swept over it with brooms! I could have done a better job. And what about a roller? No sign of one! Now, predictably, the whole job needs redoing after a couple of months.

  • Totally agree with this. It’s literally dangerous with the cars avoiding the mess. As for cyclists, it’s a death trap. It’s getting to the point now that there are more repairs than Road - the difference between Northants and Warwickshire roads all around the border is night and day

  • Northants Highways think there is no problem, who did they send out to look, Mr Magoo FFS???

  • I don't care what type of repair you claim was undertaken, to even call it a 'repair' is a misdescription, it's worse than it was before, and that's saying something.

I will reference this report when our cars inevitably suffer damage and I make a claim because of this bodge job

  • Thank you for your further comments. With regard to the general condition of the road itself; we do understand that it could benefit from resurfacing and white lining works in the future. Regrettably, this will not take place during this current financial year due to the budget for the scheme list being fully allocated. Please be assured; however, that we will include this for consideration in future years’ funding. Until then, any safety defects that are identified on the carriageway in the meantime, will be patched and repaired to keep the road serviceable. Once again, we can confirm that there are no safety defects that meet our intervention criteria: https://www.northamptonshire.gov.uk/ councilservices/ northamptonshire-highways/ roads-and-streets/ Pages/ potholes.aspx.

  • Oh, when somebody does have an accident because people are forced to drive in the middle of the road, I'll direct their lawyers to this page too

It beggars belief how Northants Highways can consider this road 'safe'

  • I am in total agreement with all the concerns. I have to drive through Barby lane every day and the difference between the road surface on the Northamptonshire side and that of the road in the Warwickshire section is worlds apart! Today, there is water everywhere, where the repairs are so uneven and people are still driving down the middle because the road is worse than before. The machinery you show in your report of how the repairs were carried out were not on site. There was a tipper style lorry and half a dozen men with brooms. I'm astounded that you think the surface is safe and not doing damage to cars. If you're low budget, maybe better finance management needs to be addressed for next year as road repairs are a basic maintenance, and where does our car tax go?

  • Total waste of time. They disagree with the complaints and apparently don’t have the funds
