Tree roots causing uneven footpath / trip hazards and damage to external garden wall

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3163007.

The footpath has been damaged due to two nr tree's & their roots causing breakage to the tarmac footpath and also damaging a previous garden wall which the council requested to be taken down at our cost after purchasing 2 Pinewood Road in 2018. The garden wall will be getting re-erected but to avoid future damage the tree's need removing & footpath repairing.

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. We understand that you have concerns about the condition of the footpath adjacent to Greenfield Avenue; specifically, that you feel that the surface is in poor condition, is cracking up with roots pushing through and presents a trip hazard. Whilst we appreciate and sympathise with your comments, we have carried out a review of this matter and can confirm that there are no immediate safety concerns relating to this issue that warrant further investigation or repair at this time, at the location given. However, please be assured that we will continue to monitor the area as part of our routine inspections. Any works we undertake to the tree are for Highway safety reasons only and we will not be undertaking any works below ground. We also don’t undertake any works on private land, to repair third party assets. To expedite this matter further, we kindly advise that you would need to contact you household insurer, as we don’t undertake survey works to discount interference from a highway asset such as a tree. Should your insurers wish to contact our insurers, this can be done via any claim against Northamptonshire Highways for damages as a potential result of this issue. An insurance claim form can be request via highways.ncc@westnorthamptonshire.gov.uk.
