Ambiguous Speed Signs

Reported via desktop in the Damaged / Missing / Facing Wrong Way category by Fiona Clarke at 14:54, Friday 13 May 2022

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3523849.

When approaching From the new staggered cross roads, the speed signs are now showing 40mph. All covers have been removed.

However, approach from Cranford and the road is clearly marked as 30mph.

There are 30mph repeaters signs along the road both ways.

So is it 30 or 40?

As a driving instructor, I need to make sure my pupils and indeed other drivers know what the correct speed limit is on this stretch of road.

  • Thank you for contacting North Northamptonshire Council with regard to the misleading Speed Limit signing along Cranford Road, Kettering. An Officer has been out to check the Speed Limit signing along this section and confirms that the current signing displayed is indeed incorrect. As part of the new Development works along this section it was agreed that the section from the Barton Road junction to just after the crossroads with Hanwood Park Avenue should be 30pmh. From this point eastwards, out past the established properties, the speed limit will be amended to 40mph. We have now contacted the Developer reading this matter instructing them to complete the signing works for the implementation of the 40mph speed limit along this section as soon as possible. In the meantime we have asked them to temporarily bag over the confusing yellow backed 40mph signing just after the Hanwood Park Avenue junction until the remainder of the 40mph signing along this section is completed and the redundant 30mph signs removed.
