Rain water drain blocked/broken

Reported via desktop in the Blocked/Damaged category anonymously at 13:43, Monday 15 August 2022

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3755256.

We live at number 60 Westfield ave and our rainwater drain is blocked. We have dug our and cleared all the underground drains on our property and have discovered that the drain pipe that exits our property is blocked or broken. We can rod for around 5 meters out under the footpath and into the road but then hit a blockage. If we run water down the drain it backs up into the inspection cover in our front garden.

  • Thank you for your enquiry and for bringing this matter to our attention. Unfortunately, we can confirm that this area isn’t maintained by highways. Therefore, you would need to get a private company to remove blockage. We are aware that our community steward made of you aware of this earlier on. We apologise that we are unable to assist further.

  • Hi, Thanks for the visit and email confirming no further action on your part. We are however confused as the visiting engineer / steward who I spoke with agreed that the blockage was under the road and not on our property. The question he went away to find out the answer too from his superiors was if you were allowed to rod the blockage from the drain cover or exposed pipework on our property as there was no obvious signs of access in the road. We have checked and cleared all the drains on our property and are no left with a problem due to a blockage with the drain under the road. Surly therefore this the responsibility of someone other than us to ensure that the drains are clear to allow our rain water to run away??
