Unclear and blocked footpaths
Reported via desktop in the Gate - Damaged/ Missing category anonymously at 16:26, Thursday 22 September 2022
Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 3841931.
The footpath is clearly marked from the road and through the gate but you are then on someone's driveway with no clear way markers. To continue, you have to proceed through an unmarked gate, across private property and then over a fence with no gate into the subsequent field. Clearer/more waymarkers are needed.
Thank you for reporting a fault. Officers will now investigate the concerns and this may take up to 5 working days. If you believe that your concerns are urgent then please phone us.

Investigation: Completed (No Action Necessary) - Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. We can confirm that this location was inspected on the 23rd of September. At the time of the inspection, it was noted that the footpath was well marked from the road with a footpath fingerpost. As the highway authority it is our legal responsibility to ensure that Rights of Way are marked from the roadside. Unfortunately, when inspecting this route, it was noted that it was not possible to attach other footpath signs as the gates on the route have been installed and are owned by the landowner. Their consent would be required to attach any signs to these gates. At the current time, West Northamptonshire Highways have been unable to gain permission from the landowner to improve the waymarking on this route and we are unable to enforce this issue. At the time of the inspection it was also noted that one field gate is approximately 4 metres off of the legal line of the footpath. The gate in this fence line is openable and usable. As access is currently available on the ground for pedestrians using this public footpath, this is a low priority issue for the foreseeable future. Apologies that we are unable to assist further.
State changed to: No further action
