  • Investigation: Completed (Highways to Monitor, Routine Inspection Programme) - Due to the nature of the road, we have carried out a temporary repair, as this is best for keeping the roads safe and passable. However, please be assured that we will continue to monitor the area more closely as part of our routine inspections and we will programme a full repair if necessary.

  • This was a sinkhole/pothole on station road that caused instant and dangerous blow outs to mine and three other cars tyres. It also caused a puncture to another vehicle that managed to get over chownsmill roundabout before coming to a stop on the other side. All of these incidents happened within 10 minutes of mine. There was probably many more punctures and blowouts before ours.

After my blowout I pulled over and contacted the police so that they could mark off the area as it was extremely unsafe and dangerous as when I had a blowout it caused the car to go up the pavement and into the direction of the bridge wall I had to pull the steering away to stay on the road.

Police came and stayed until it was safe to leave. The police officer put his foot in the pothole and we were both shocked to see that the bottom of it was like jelly! This makes me think it is actually a sinkhole as it was leaking when stood on. This had already been repaired prior to me having a blow out so it is clearly a dangerous piece of road if it has already opened back up again in a matter of days or weeks. It has been repaired now but I’m not sure if it will last as the repair team have not repaired all of the hole leaving it susceptible to further damage to vehicles and peoples safety.
