Uneven dangerous path and path overgrown by grass

Reported via mobile in the Slabs - Uneven / Damaged / Cracked category anonymously at 11:09, Thursday 1 June 2023

Sent to Northamptonshire Highways less than a minute later. ref: 4618651.

Thanks for clearing the vegetation by the path where it leaves Staverton village. This has revealed that the origins path was much wider than it appeared and needs edging out to remove grass that has grown over the tarmac and restore it to the full width, demarcated on one side by the line of cobblestones and on the other by what appears to be wooden shuttering from when the tarmac was laid. The full width is clear from those parts of the path where these features are visible, but the path is mainly much narrower. A short section of the path has been damaged by tree routes and requires reinstatement to make it safe.

The continuation of the path runs from the village to Daventry and, apart from the area adjacent to the entrance to Staverton Park estate, is similarly overgrown by grass and also needs edging out to its full width. Indeed in some parts down towards the lay-by the path is down to about 18 inches wide and was clearly much wider than that when first installed.

If the path were restored to its original width and condition it would be surely a cheaper alternative to a planned new footpath that is being considered to link Daventry with Staverton, using the new footpath by Staverton Lodge fir the Daventry end.
